Wan versions, from 2.1 to 3.0

Wan 2.1 (February 2025) and Wan 2.2 (July 2025) were released as open source under the Apache-2.0 license, with code on GitHub. You can download and run them on your own hardware.

Wan 2.5 (preview from September 2025) was the first Wan with synced audio. It made 5 or 10 second clips at up to 1080p. Wan 2.6 (December 2025) added multi-shot storytelling, clips up to 15 seconds, voice and reference-to-video. Wan 2.6 Flash (January 2026) is a faster, cheaper version where sound can be turned off.

Wan 2.7 (April 2026) makes 2 to 15 second clips at 720p or 1080p. It adds first and last frame control, driving audio, continuing an existing clip, up to 5 reference images and video editing with a prompt. Wan 3.0 (August 2026) goes up to 30 seconds and accepts text, image, video, audio and document inputs, but it’s only offered through the API and is still marked preview.

Is Wan 2.7 open source?

No. Only Wan 2.1 and Wan 2.2 are open source. Wan 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 and 3.0 are closed models that you use through Alibaba’s API or through sites built on it, like VivClip. Some sites say Wan 2.7 is under Apache-2.0; that’s not correct.

Wan 2.7 image to video on VivClip

Pick High quality to use Wan 2.7. It gives the most detail and always adds sound that fits the scene. Pick Fast to use Wan 2.6 Flash when you want to try ideas quickly; it costs fewer credits and lets you switch sound off. Both make 5 or 10 second videos at 720p or 1080p, and the video keeps the shape of your photo.

Want to start from text instead of a photo? Text to video uses Wan 2.7 at High quality, in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1. VivClip doesn’t run Wan 3.0 or Wan 2.5. The Generate button shows the cost before you start.
