Same animation, far smaller file
GIF stores every frame with little compression, so even short animations are heavy. MP4 uses modern video compression and keeps the same motion in a fraction of the space. Many apps, including Instagram and TikTok, also accept MP4 but not GIF.

How to convert a GIF to MP4
Choose a GIF
Drop a GIF onto the box above, click to pick one from your device, or paste it from your clipboard.
Choose how many times it plays
A GIF loops on its own, but a video plays once. Pick 3 or 5 plays to turn a very short GIF into a longer clip.
Convert and download
Click Convert to MP4, watch the preview, then download the video and share it wherever you like.
Why use this GIF to MP4 converter
Private by design
The conversion happens in your browser. Your GIF is never uploaded to a server or shared with anyone.
Free, with no watermark
No account, no limits and no logo added to your video. The MP4 you download is yours to use.
Works on any device
Convert on a computer, tablet or phone with a modern browser. Nothing to install, nothing to configure.
Ready for social apps
You get an H.264 MP4 that Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, X and most other apps accept for upload.
Why turn a GIF into a video?
The main reasons are size and compatibility. A GIF can easily be ten times bigger than the same animation saved as an MP4, which makes pages slow and eats into mobile data. Several social networks also refuse GIF uploads or convert them badly, while an MP4 posts cleanly as a short video.
Videos are easier to edit, too. Once your animation is an MP4 you can trim it, add music or drop it into any video editor, which is hard to do with a GIF.
About loops, sound and size
Most apps play a video once, so a two-second GIF can end before anyone notices it. Choosing 3 or 5 plays repeats the animation inside the video, making it long enough to enjoy. The result has no sound, because GIFs do not contain audio. Width and height are kept as they are, except that odd numbers are rounded down by one pixel, which video formats require.
